I started translating in New York City, beginning with psychological assessments and short commercials, moving on to documentaries and TV news. At first, translation was simply an easy way of making a living, but after working two years at Link TV, I discovered my passion for the art of translation. Translating news might sound both boring and depressing, but it's quite the opposite. Aside from being informed about Middle Eastern affairs, I found Arabic news to be filled with poetry. The challenge of making things 'make sense' to the western audience was most enjoyable. My love for language trickled into my art; I started relying on the dictionary, or rather al-Mu'jam, as a primary reference in writing for the stage. Aside from translating news and articles, I aspire to translate Arabic books of fiction and creative non fiction, especially dealing with women, religion and mythology.
